Our Learning  »  Days to Remember

Science Fair

There were some absolutely fantastic inventions for the first Calverley Parkside Science Fair. The standard was incredibly high and our children showed some brilliant resourceful thinking. Definitely some future "world changers" on show!

Super Learning Day - Problem Solving

The 27th of April was a Super Learning day focused around problem solving! The whole school took part and activities included a maths workshop in the hall and a paper plane championship. Children used skills from all over the curriculum to solve different problems!

Rugby Final

10 members of Year 6 took part in the All Leeds Final in Tag Rugby. After successfully beating all the teams in our area, we progressed to the final. The day started really well; winning our first 3 matches. After progressing to the quarter-finals we unfortunately lost 5-3. A great effort by all players. Well-done!

Problem Solving Day- Mrs Murphy

On Monday 16th May it was Maths Problem Solving Day. During the afternoon each class had fun making 'Marshmallow Shooters'. Measuring the length, calculating combined class distances and finding who could shoot the furthest. Year 5 and 6 also had to decide if the size of the marshmallow or the size of the cup would effect the distance it travels.

Fulneck Netball and Football U11 Cup

On a sunny afternoon in March Calverley Parkside sent it's netball and football team to Fulneck; to take part in the U11 cup. The netball team, put together in the last few days, with out a game under their belt, performed well. The football team narrowly missed a place in the final and finished 3rd (out of 15 schools). Well done to all who took part.

World Book Day
World Book Day at Parkside
The children and staff at Parkside looked very different today!! It was like entering the pages of many different books; we had Gruffalos, Harry Potters', Horrid Henrys', lots of witches from Room on the Broom and even a very Hungry Caterpillar. The children all looked amazing in their costumes. Thank you for all the time and effort that went into supporting your children in this event.
The learning for the day also capitalised on the children's interests in their books. All classes took part in paired reading sessions with their partner class and the Year 6 children even wrote their own short stories to share with the Reception class.
Please see Earwig for further photos and film of the days events in each class.

Apologies for the absence of the book tokens from book bags as they did not arrive. We have contacted them and we will send them home as soon as they are delivered.

Tony Wilson 'Storyteller' visits Parkside
During our fourth Focus Week we were fortunate enough to have Tony Wilson visit Parkside not just once but twice! The week began with special story telling musical assembly for the whole school. Tony then visited all the class in school to deliver sessions on storytelling and imaginative writing. Later in the week Tony came back to see how the children had progressed and to further inspire them.
Many classes have uploaded their learning with Tony onto Earwig, please take a look.

Tony Wilson 'Storyteller'

The children were excited and enthused in storytelling and imaginative writing in the sessions led by Tony Wilson.

Athletics Competition
On Saturday 4th July 30 Parkside athletes competed in the Airedale and Wharfedale Schools Athletics Competition at Leeds Beckett University in Headingley. Despite the rainy start to the early morning, the competition got off to a great start with Years Three and Four successfully competing in their running events and Years Five and Six in their field events. Then the Years Five and Six teams turned their attention to the track, with even more success. I was very proud of all of the athletes who gave up their Saturday morning to represent school with determination and commitment. I would also like to thank all of the families who supported the team.
