Pastoral Leader
At Calverley Parkside, we are committed to supporting the well-being of all our students. The Pastoral Leader provides a range of support services to help students navigate social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. The Pastoral Leader works closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that students receive the necessary support. Support can include individual sessions, group sessions, and informal check-ins. The Pastoral Leader can help with a variety of issues, including anxiety, managing strong feelings, self-esteem, friendships, relationships, family issues, social skills, and school refusal. The Pastoral Leader also works with external agencies, such as Mindmate and local clusters, to provide additional support to students and families - see below for additional detail.

Emotional Check-Ins: Regular opportunities for students to express their feelings and discuss any concerns, fostering open communication.
PSHE Curriculum: Comprehensive education covering emotional wellbeing, relationships, safety, and other vital life skills.
Social and Emotional Learning: Integrating wellbeing into the curriculum and daily routines, teaching students about emotions, self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, empathy, and respect.
Universal Wellbeing Strategies: School-wide initiatives to support students' mental and physical wellbeing, including mindfulness, relaxation exercises, promoting healthy eating and physical activity, and creating calm spaces.
Building Positive Relationships: Fostering strong connections between students, teachers, and staff, creating opportunities for peer interaction, and encouraging open communication.
Creating a Safe and Inclusive Environment: Ensuring all areas of the school are safe and welcoming, with clear anti-bullying policies and a focus on understanding diversity.
Consistent Routines: Providing clear and predictable routines to help children feel secure and understand expectations.
For students who need a little extra support, we offer:
Pastoral Leads and Teams: Dedicated staff members who provide focused support to students experiencing specific difficulties, offering guidance and intervention. Our Pastoral Lead is here to ensure children feel safe and happy, providing social and emotional support to help them reach their full potential. Support is tailored to individual needs through check-ins, individual sessions, and group sessions focusing on social skills and teamwork.
MindMate Referrals: Referral system to access MindMate services for children and young people experiencing mental health and emotional wellbeing challenges.
Cluster Support: Collaboration with local cluster groups (e.g., family hubs, community support services) to provide targeted interventions and resources for students and families.
MindMate SPA (Single Point of Access): A crucial service for mental health and emotional wellbeing support, offering assessments and referrals to appropriate services.
School Nursing Service: Providing health advice, support, and interventions for students, including those with physical health or emotional wellbeing concerns.
Early Help Hubs/Cluster Teams: Local community-based teams offering support to families facing various challenges, including parenting support and help coordinating services.
MindMate School Teams: Collaborating with schools to provide support for children and young people experiencing low to mid-level anxiety, including office support, parent consultations, and signposting to appropriate support services.
For children with complex needs, we collaborate with specialist agencies:
Child Protection Plans: Formal plans developed with multiple agencies to safeguard children at risk of significant harm.
Child in Need Plans: Plans designed to support children who require additional support to achieve or maintain a reasonable standard of health or development.
Early Help Plans: Collaborative plans involving various agencies to provide coordinated support to children and families facing complex needs, aiming to prevent escalation to statutory intervention.
Children's Social Care (Leeds City Council): Responsible for safeguarding children at risk of harm, including child protection investigations, Child in Need plans, and Child Protection plans.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS): Provides specialist mental health assessments and treatment for children and young people with complex mental health needs.
Special Educational Needs Inclusion Team (SENIT): This team provides assessments for students with complex learning needs, SEMH needs and staff training.
Police (West Yorkshire Police): Involved in cases of child protection concerns, including child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Leeds SENDIASS: Provides impartial information, advice, and support to children and young people with SEND and their families.
Educational Psychology Services: Educational psychologists provide consultations and advice to school staff on strategies to support students with learning and behavioral difficulties.
Family Hub Scheme: Family Hubs bring together various organizations to simplify access to essential support for families, offering guidance and advice, including family support, mental health services, domestic abuse support, and parenting classes. This integration allows individuals to share their needs only once, while professionals collaborate to provide effective assistance.
